This is me, Ke-Yana Drake, 2008

Me, myself and I:
My name is Ke-Yana Drake, and I live in a small South Pacific country called New Zealand. I am a busy lady, I do quite a bit of volunteer work and when I’m well enough I also have Reiki and Aura reading clients. Most of the rest of my time I write. Some day soon I’d very much like to do writing full time and be paid for it, but for the moment it is a loved hobby of mine.
Writing on the whole:
I’ve been writing since I was twelve years old (in Jan ‘09 I’ll be 30). When I was twelve, I had an assignment where one could choose what one wanted to do for that assignment, and I didn’t really know what to, so, I asked someone, and that someone suggested I write a short story “because you’ve got such an amazing imagination”. I didn’t know it at the time, but that assignment (a collection of four short “horror” stories that were horribly written), was the start of a lifelong passion in writing.
I love writing. It’s like one of those “pick-a-path” books, where you can choose which way the story goes. Or maybe it’s more like that book in the Never Ending Story, where the reader is the partial creator of that world. Although, that said, as a writer I’ve also discovered that characters can gain a life of their own. Some of my long standing characters have a perminant place in my head where they argue with me about plot and what I want them to do. So, to me, writing is very much 50/50: me creating/the characters arguing. One character in particular (who, unfortunately you probably won’t meet on this blog), has been quite a bain of my existence.
Writing this blog:
This blog is set in a much larger universe that I created over the years for the novel series I’m currently writing. In fact, the blog was started at the book-year of 3003 (Year of the Founder), which is seven years before the bulk of book one; Time Speaker. Originally it was my intent to tell the back-story of a main character in the novel series, but after discovering the complications of copyright on the internet, I decided to create another character for the blog.
The purpose of this blog now is to tell the basic back story of the Capitol City Psi Rebels before 3010. To tell this story is a new character I created for the blog; Taelin Kaan. The second purpose of this blog is as a writing exercise for me. I want to be a prolific writer, able to spit out good blocks of text at the drop of the hat, the faster I can do it, at the highest quality and consistantly over time, the more of a capital investment I will be to future publishing companies… the more of an investment I am, the longer I can keep a job writing. What my dream has been since those first awful horror stories I wrote at the age of twelve is to be a professional writer, I want to work and be paid to do my passion, and I want to be good enough to do it for the rest of my life.
So, this blog is not only another way for me to tell many of the side stories that were created while writing the novel series, but also to challenge myself to be a better writer.
The end bit
So, welcome to my blog! I hope that you enjoy Taelin’s story, and those stories of other characters around him, many of whom have important roles in the novel series that will be revealed when the books are published.
If you have any questions, suggestions or complaints, please feel free to email me or leave a comment. Questions, suggestions and criticism (as long as it is constructive) are very welcome, because they make my writing and this blog better… which of course is always good.
